HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Date: 12 Sep 2022
By: admin

During this period of National Mourning for HRH Queen Elizabeth II, we would like to extend our gratitude to one of the most famous animal lovers in the world. Queen Elizabeth II was often pictured with her beloved corgis and horses, but is also known to have shown a great deal of affection for all animals. Her tireless support for the veterinary industry helped build our high standards of animal welfare and helped the vital work of veterinary professionals.

Her majesty was also a patron of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, as well as the British Veterinary Association, Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Battersea Dogs Home to name but a few.

We thank you Ma’am you will be sorely missed.

We have compiled some of the tribute statements from the animal organizations the Queen supported below:

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeries:

Like the whole of the UK, the President, Councils and staff of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons are devastated to learn of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, our loyal Patron and benefactor since 1952.

“Throughout her 70-year reign, the Queen, as a renowned animal-lover, was a steadfast supporter of both the College and the veterinary professions as a whole.

“She visited the former RCVS headquarters in 1994 for our ‘Charter 150’ celebrations, to mark the 150th anniversary of our original Royal Charter, and granted permission to use her name and likeness for the RCVS Queen’s Medal, the highest honour the RCVS can bestow upon a veterinary surgeon.

“We reflect upon her extraordinary legacy, service and contribution with both awe and sadness, and, along with all in the veterinary professions, our thoughts are with the Royal Family on this very difficult day.

British Veterinary Association

Responding to news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, patron of the British Veterinary Association (BVA), BVA President Justine Shotton, said: “All of us at the British Veterinary Association are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our Patron Her Majesty The Queen. A dedicated public servant and a lifelong animal lover, as our Patron for more than seven decades she helped build the UK’s international reputation for high standards of animal welfare, supported the vital work of our veterinary professionals, and improved the lives of animals both here in the UK and across the world. We are eternally grateful for her service and our hearts and thoughts are with her family, her friends, and the nation.”

RSPCA

Staff and volunteers across the RSPCA share the nation’s sadness on the passing of our Monarch and Patron, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. During her 70-year reign The Queen was well known for her love of animals and particularly her beloved dogs.

In 1840 we received royal approval from Queen Victoria and we continue to be extremely proud of our royal heritage. We were honoured to take part in a parade for the Silver Jubilee in 1977, as well as the Patron’s Lunch in 2016. Looking ahead to 2024, we will be awarding a new award in The Queen’s name to honour those who have made a huge contribution to animal welfare.

Chris Sherwood, Chief Executive of the RSPCA

Battersea Dogs Home

Battersea would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to The Royal Family as we join the nation in mourning the loss of our beloved Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our charity was fortunate to benefit from Her Majesty’s patronage and we will always be immensely grateful for the support and interest she showed in our work throughout her lifetime. Dogs Trust

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty the Queen and wish to convey our sympathy to the Royal Family.

Her Majesty had been our patron since 1990 and, as a world-famous dog lover, her backing was a great help in highlighting the rescue dogs in our care. We will always be grateful for her support.

Owen Sharp , Chief Executive  , Dogs Trust
