❤️ Did you know that animals can give blood too? ❤️
This handsome, adorable, brave boy is Finn, pictured with lead vet Gabriella. 💙 Finn’s amazing owners brought him to Streatham Hill Vets for an emergency blood donation. This was needed for Izzie, who is the beautiful girl owned by one of our Streatham Hill Vets nurses. 🐶
Izzie was recently rushed into the practice after her family noticed she didn’t want to stand up or walk, and was lethargic. An ultrasound showed Izzie was bleeding into her abdomen. 😢
Finn’s owners rushed in to let Finn donate 450ml of blood, which to an Irish wolfhound isn’t very much. ❤️
We are always looking for canine blood donors to join our blood donor list for emergency situations like this. For your dog to be a blood donor, they must meet certain criteria. Your dog’s welfare is always our priority and so for them to become a lifesaver, they must be:
🔹 Fit and healthy
🔹 Between one and eight years old
🔹 Weigh more than 25kg
🔹 Have a good temperament
🔹 Have never travelled outside of the UK
🔹 Vaccinated or have an annual titre test after the first year booster
🔹 Not on any medication
Prior to your dog’s blood donation, a free full blood profile panel is run. They also receive fluids to replace the blood taken, and of course a box of tasty treats. 😍 🐶
The team at Streatham Hill Vets can’t thank Finn and his family enough for rushing to help us and gorgeous Izzy. The blood donated by Finn could save Izzie’s life and that definitely warrants superhero status for Finn! 🌟 🌟 🌟
We gave them both lots of cuddles before they went home for some rest. 😍 💜 💙
If you think your pet would be up for helping out another four legged friend, please give our friendly team a call on- 0208 674 3525. We will be more than happy to discuss the criteria and add your details to our blood donor list. 😊
