It’s All About Cats – International Cat Day

Date: 07 Aug 2020
By: admin

Facts about cats

Did you know that…

  1. The most popular names for female cats are Poppy, Molly, Luna, Bella and Daisy
  2. The most popular names for male cats are Oscar, Charlie, Alfie, Jasper, Milo
  3. A cat was the Mayor of an Alaskan town for 20 years – An orange tabby cat called Stubbs was mayor of Talkeetna for 20 years and we could definitely say that he was the most loved and stroked Alaskan Mayor of all time.
  4. Ancient Egyptians would shave off their eyebrows when their cats died – An interesting way of mourning your cat, don’t you think?
  5. In 1963 a cat went to space – Felicette or Astrocat as she was known amongst her fans was the one and only cat to go to space on October 18th, 1963.
  6. The oldest known pet cat existed 9,500 years ago –  In 2004, French archaeologists discovered a 9,500-year-old cat grave in Cyprus. This makes this the oldest known pet cat!
  7. A house cat can reach speeds of up to 30mph!

A Gorgeous Chap

This handsome boy is Scabbers!

He came into the clinic to have his blood pressure taken and was the perfect patient.

He was even happy to pose for the camera afterwards. ❤️

Rupert The Giant

Rupert the massive Maine Coone has been in to see Alek for his Health check nail clip..wormer and weigh in..a massive 9 + kilos…

Dobby, the House Cat

Stunning Dobby (and his camera-shy (!) brother Socks) visited us to be neutered and microchipped. The pair were a firm hit with the nursing staff and we are so lucky to have them join Team Briar! Nurse Mikyler couldn’t resist one last cuddle before sending them home!

We look forward to seeing them back in a few days for a post-op check before they are signed off! 👍👍

Did you know that neutering male cats discourages them from wandering – which in turn, reduces the chance of them being hit by a car OR fighting when roaming in another cat’s territory! It also reduces behaviour such as spraying and aggression so ALL GOOD!!

Apollo, the God of Cats

This little Munchkin is Apollo! 😇🐈He is 4 months old and he came to our practice after his owner noticed that he was lame on his right hind leg.😔 After an initial check, our vet Gabriella suspected that the lameness in his leg may have resulted from a fracture and so she carried out x-rays, which confirmed a fracture🦴😢

In order to help heal his fracture, Apollo is now on strict cage rest with a splint on his leg, which needs to stay on for 6 days and then he will return to us to have another splint placed on his leg for a further 10-14 days before having another X-ray to review the healing progress of his fracture.🏥

We hope that Apollo makes a full recovery and we look forward to seeing his progress when he returns for his check-ups.😻

Ben and Aash

Sweet Ben hadn’t been feeling himself so his owners brought him in for an examination with our fantastic Vet Aashima 🩺

Poor Ben had previously had issues with his eyes, for which we administered medications but unfortunately, his condition deteriorated and he had vision loss in his left eye which was also very swollen 😥

After a thorough examination, the Vet decided that an enucleation to remove his eye was the best thing to do for Ben.

We are very happy to report that the surgery went well and Ben went home the same day with his loving family❣

We will see him again in a few days for his post-op check and some cuddles for being an exemplary patient! 🌟
